Cultivated and eaten from ancient times, the onion (cipolla) is firmly established as an important flavouring ingredient. Many different varieties of round onion have been developed and Franchi Sementi offers a good range of onion seed from mild salad and pickling varieties to robust good keeping types. Quarantine restrictions prohibit sending onion seed  to Tasmania.

	ONION (Cipolla) Barletta This is a small white onion about 2cm in diameter that is very early and great in salads, on skewers, in pickles and as a spring vegetable with peas. Direct seed and use thinnings in salads or use transplants. 3 gram packet contains about 1200 seeds.		Price:	QTY:

	ONION (Cipolla) di Genova Mild, flattish red onion to 5cm. Transplants or direct seeding in spring. Keep well weeded. This is a 'long day' onion and will not develop large heads if grown north of about 36 degrees. Use in salads, pickles and on skewers. 4g packet for about 1,000 seeds.		Price:	QTY:

	ONION (Cipolla) rossa lunga di Firenze 10cm long, narrow red onion with a mild taste. Use in salads but stunning grilled or on skewers. Direct seed or transplant in spring and keep weed free. 	LEEK Gigante d'Inverno 2 Giant of Winter. Large, long stem. Sow close together in a deep pot Aug-Sept. This will produce long seedlings that can be dropped into deep holes 100mm apart in late spring. Let the rain or irrigation back fill the holes. 	ARTICHOKE (Carciofo) violetto precoce This is a vigorous, attractive plant that produces spineless medium artichokes that are rich violet/purple in colour with tight, thick and tender leaves and a delicate taste. 	CARDOON (Cardo) gobo di Nizza Sow under cover in early spring; transplant or sow direct into fertile, well-drained soil after frost at 80cm spacing. Will produce for 3-4 years. Fleshy stems should be wrapped with paper 2 weeks before harvest to blanch. 7g packet for about 140 seeds.		Price:	QTY:
